President’s Message
December 2009
Another year and one filled with certainly enough of interest to fill a fairly large scrapbook of aviation memories. Your Association was most active during the year in protecting the ability to safely exercise our flying privileges here in the Valley. Most importantly we were able to help get the correct facts out to the public concerning the safety of General Aviation aircraft. We held our first meeting at Henderson and intend to continue the practice of rotating meeting locations in the New Year.
CCAA was instrumental in pushing for the SJR committee to become a reality and ultimately to complete its’ assigned task of a complete review of the safety to the community surrounding the North Las Vegas Airport. Along the way we helped develop a thorough review of accident statistics going back over a number of years to help settle community apprehension concerning airport operations at North Las Vegas. To continue our effort to keep the public informed and with the cooperation of the General Aviation area of the Department of Aviation we held our second annual Open House. You all must take credit for its’ success with the remarkable whole-hearted support of the aviation community throughout the entire Valley. The look of wonder and pleasure on the youngsters who attended was proof of the success of the event. Our plans for future Open House events include one to be held at Henderson sometime next year.
I would be remiss if I did not mention several folks who have made a difference in this year’s success for the Association: Jim Bonelli for his organizing the Open House aircraft; Jerry Doyle for our new communications capability and energy in bringing together the Open House; Dave Edwards for his work on the SJR3 report and statistical analysis; Bill Tisdale and Jules Kabat for their critical review of rules, regulations and current FAA proposed rulings. We also received considerable support from Cecil Johnson and his team including Doug McNeely, Ben Czyzewski, and Dennis Anderson, which augur well for future cooperation in dealing with some still unresolved issues affecting all of us. The Line Crew at North Las Vegas also made a tremendous contribution to the success of the Open House. Without their help aircraft would not have been safely integrated into the event. Thanks to you all.
