January 2011
Dear Fellow Members
Why bother to renew your membership in the Clark County Aviation Association? You could stay with membership in the EAA or AOPA so why an additional membership in CCAA? Put into perspective is distance 1300 and 2400 miles respectively from our Valley to each of their respective headquarters. Further is the lack of interest in our local problems, as they do not have an impact in most instances on the national purposes of either AOPA or EAA. CCAA is your face to the local politicians and bureaucrats who have consistently tried to reduce your ability to exercise your flight privileges. CCAA is your voice with respect to educating the public as to what aviation is all about. We have consistently been in the forefront of educating the public as to the efforts to maintain and enhance aviation safety. We have been there during each of the media hyped accidents assuring folks that contrary to one politician, as ridiculous a statement as one can imagine, that airplanes do not fall out of the sky like autumn leaves. The old adage that in numbers there is strength still applies today more than ever given the continuous interference of our public servants and governmental agencies. I hope I have made our case for renewal. If not consider what we are planning for the New Year.
With the New Year come new opportunities for your CCAA to make a difference towards increasing interest in aviation. First, we will be working to develop a scholarship program for youngsters to provide all of the initial study materials and if possible through your help some early flight experience. Second, for those of you who want to fly on weekends we will be developing a flight-sharing program to create a weekend pool. The goal of this effort will be to literally “meet and greet” your fellow pilots. Third, is our Annual Open House scheduled for early April. This event gives us an opportunity to really sell aviation to the community and has been hugely successful in past years through the efforts of all our members. And as always CCAA will be looking out for all of us in General Aviation on the unforeseen events of the New Year!
Safe Flying,
David Lerner, President
